  • Most commonly used crystalline material for transmissive optics in the IR region.
  • ZnSe partially transmits the visible allowing visible laser diodes and He-Ne lasers to be used for optical alignment.
  • A synthetic optical grade crystalline material manufactured by chemical vapor deposition (CVD).
  • Though ZnSe has an extremely high internal transmittance, due to its high refractive index, the surface reflection loss of almost 17% per surface keeps the total transmittance low.
  • Reacts with acids to generate poisonous selenium oxide gas.
